Abstract
Experimental aeroacoustic data can be costly and time-consuming to obtain, which motivates careful
study of data-augmentation methods. This exploratory study compares bootstrap resampling with a
SMOTE-style nearest-neighbor interpolation applied to continuous records from the NASA/UCI Airfoil
Self-Noise dataset. One random 10% base sample (n = 150) was used to generate 1,353 observations
by each method. Fidelity was evaluated using Pearson correlations for all 15 variable pairs, absolute
correlation errors, approximate confidence intervals, correlation-difference heatmaps, standardized
quantile profiles, sound-pressure-level kernel density estimates, and a multivariate energy-distance
measure. Mean absolute correlation error was 0.0304 for the base sample, 0.0297 for bootstrap, and 0.0355
for SMOTE-style interpolation; maximum errors were 0.0863, 0.0543, and 0.0962, respectively. These
findings describe one dataset and one sampled subset. Because the generated observations were derived
from the same base sample, they are not independent experimental units, and the nominal correlationcomparison
tests cannot be interpreted as independent-sample confirmation. The study therefore does
not establish preservation of physical properties, improved nonlinear learning, or improved predictive
performance. It provides a dataset-specific descriptive comparison that motivates repeated-sample,
physically validated, and prediction-based evaluation in future work.
The ensemble smoother with multiple data assimilation (ESMDA) is widely used for reservoir history matching because of its parallel computational efficiency and ease of implementation. Production data in high-dimensional reservoir applications are often correlated across time, wells, and response types. When a diagon...

Nonuniform sampling presents a long-standing challenge in astrophysical time-domain analysis, invalidating the standard autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions and forcing researchers to adopt ad-hoc methods like interpolation or binning, which introduce unquantified biases and lack rigorous error estimation. H...

A frequently occurring challenge in experimental and numerical observations is how to resolve features, such as spectral peaks—with center, width, height—and derivatives from measured data with unavoidable noise. Although many smoothing procedures exist, most are ineffective at reducing noise when the widths of the fea...

Estimating the auto-correlation function (ACF) and cross-correlation function (CCF) of sampled series is a standard task in many physics fields, including astronomy and environmental sciences. We present nufftcf, an ACF/CCF estimator designed primarily for irregularly sampled series, numerically consistent with establi...
Bayesian data assimilation combines model forecasts with noisy observations, but sampling high-dimensional, non-Gaussian posteriors remains challenging. We introduce an observation-interpolant framework that turns pretrained stochastic interpolant, flow matching, and diffusion models into posterior samplers without ret...
Repeated geothermal evaluation motivates inexpensive flow and heat-transport approximations. We combine proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) with extreme learning machine (ELM) regression to reconstruct temperature fields and predict production curves and horizon-capped breakthrough times from simulation data.
