Abstract
This paper presents a model for the dynamic deformation of plane composite frames accounting for the time-nonlocal elastic behavior of the material. The time-nonlocal model, previously developed for beam elements, is extended to frame structures and implemented within the finite element method. The influence of the nonlocal model scale parameter on the dynamic response is investigated. A U-shaped frame made of thermosetting vinyl ester glass-fiber-reinforced polymer is used as a case study to calibrate the scale parameter against reference three-dimensional finite element analysis results using the least-squares criterion and the golden-section search method. The calibrated time-nonlocal model significantly reduces the root-mean-square error compared with the classical local model and provides results that are in close agreement with the reference three-dimensional finite element analysis. The results provide additional evidence that the scale parameter of the time-nonlocal model can be regarded as an intrinsic material property independent of the structural geometry.
Description of the proposed approach for the probability assessment of composite material properties based on the known properties of components included in the material is given in this paper. Difference from a classical micromechanic models is accounting for the stochastic law of fiber and matrix properties distribut...

The paper proposes a mathematical model of the thermomechanical hardening process in deformable solids based on a generalized Riccati equation with time-dependent coefficients. The relevance of the study is determined by the need for compact mathematical models capable of adequately describing the evolution of hardenin...

This paper develops a nonlocal bar–substrate medium model to study the axial (longitudinal) response of nanobars embedded in an elastic foundation. Small-scale behavior is represented through a two-phase mixture, stress-driven, nonlocal integral formulation. To reflect the surrounding medium and surface-related size ef...

A geometrically-exact planar beam finite-element framework is developed for the analysis of beams with hyperelastic constitutive models. A conventional three-field beam model is first formulated with full geometrical nonlinearity and a linear elastic material law. The kinematics are then enriched by an additional globa...

An approach to directly assessing the stability of a flat frame structure under unsteady dynamic loading is proposed and numerically investigated. In contrast to the traditional choice of a single static or quasi-static calculation case, at each step of integrating the equation of motion, an instantaneous stability pro...
