In the present paper, we study the maximization problem of the $k$-Torsional rigidity under quermassintegral constraint, with particular emphasis on the role of the ball. Our main result shows a phenomenon which, as far as we know, has not previously been observed: the ball, rather than being an extremal shape, is a saddle point. More precisely, for suitable quermassintegral constraints, we show that the $k$-torsional rigidity admits both increasing and decreasing perturbations around the ball. The proof is based on a second-order analysis of the corresponding variational problem. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first use of a second-order shape derivative approach in the study of variational problems for $k$-Hessian operators. We also establish an analogous saddle-point behavior for a related curvature functional under a volume constraint, highlighting a structural distinction between the intermediate Hessian regime and the classical Laplace and Monge-Amp\`ere cases.
We study a nonlocal 2-Hessian equation, given by an infimum of linear deformations of the fractional Laplacian, that is, $\inf_{A\in {A}_2}\Delta^s (u\circ A)(A^{-1}x)$. We characterize the class of coefficient matrices ${A}_2$, which determines the behavior of the operator, and provide a detailed geometric description...

The constrained equilibrium problem for the logarithmic potential was introduced by Rakhmanov (1996) as he realized that the asymptotic distribution of the zeros of discrete orthogonal polynomials in a compact interval could be described in terms of the equilibrium measure of this interval in a class of measures subjec...

The huge amount of literature about the divergence equation in bounded Lipschitz domains of $\R^n$ ($n\ge2$) is fairly disconnected and even apparently simple problems remain unsolved. We go several steps further in the knowledge of this equation and of some related inequalities. We prove that among its infinitely many...

We study quadratically regularized optimal transport with quadratic cost in the regime of small regularization $\varepsilon$, where the support of the optimal coupling is sparse. For smooth marginal densities in $\mathbb{R}^d$, we show that the support contains the graph of the Brenier map. After centering by the Breni...
In this paper, we consider a nonlocal elliptic equation involving a nonnegative parameter $a$ that quantifies the strength of the nonlocal term, posed in a smooth bounded domain with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and a given nonnegative source term $f$. This class of problems arises in several applications,...

We study rigidity for the weighted $p$-Laplace equation on smooth bounded domains in dimensions three and higher. We show that a smooth positive weight sufficiently close to $1$ is identically $1$ if the derivative of its Dirichlet-to-Neumann map at one affine boundary value agrees with that for the unit weight. We als...
