Abstract
The present study examined the effects of different teaching strategies on the problem-solving skills of primary school students. A quasi-experimental research design was adopted, and a sample of 120 students was selected and equally divided into three groups: traditional teaching, activity-based learning, and problem-based learning. A problem-solving skills test was used to assess students' performance before and after the teaching intervention. The findings revealed improvement in the problem-solving skills of students across all three groups. However, the problem-based learning group demonstrated the highest improvement (59.6%), followed by the activity-based learning group (48.4%), while the traditional teaching group showed comparatively lower improvement (23.5%). The results indicated that student-centred and interactive teaching strategies were more effective than conventional teaching methods in developing students' reasoning, analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. The study concluded that the integration of activity-based and problem-based learning approaches in primary education can significantly contribute to the development of essential problem-solving skills among students.
Problem-solving ability is a crucial competency in science learning that still requires improvement, particularly in the topic of matter and its changes. The low level of this skill highlights the need for more innovative and student-centered instructional approaches. This study aims to examine the effect of the Proble...
