A Comprehensive Review on the Analysis of Sustainable Performance and Durability of Interlocking Concrete Pavers under Traffic and Subgrade Variability
Abstract
The rapid growth of highway networks, as well as urban centres, stimulated the creation of both types of roadways: rigid and flexible. Proper strategies have been developed to reduce the tax of road repair and water blockage. One of many possible options is manufacturing pervious materials that could be used as roadways. Permeable paver blocks refer to concrete pavers that have holes cut on them. In order to render the concrete matrix permeable and, therefore, prevent water logging, the fine particles (sand) can be completely removed or partially removed by using permeable paver blocks. This paper theoretically discusses the different mechanical, functional, and structural performances of the sustainable concrete paver blocks. The pervious paver blocks were compared in terms of additive-free and additive-containing industrial waste. Paver blocks manufactured using sustainable materials can be used to effectively solve the urban heat islands and drainage issues. These blocks also give a durable road surface to minor-traffic roads.
