Abstract
Cross Reality (CR) enables seamless transitions and collaboration between environments characterized by different degrees of virtuality, potentially offering new opportunities for the integrated use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in industrial settings. From this perspective, CR may represent a valuable approach for supporting operational performance and worker experience in industrial workspaces. While AR and VR have demonstrated benefits when applied independently, their isolated adoption can be affected by technical, spatial, and interaction-related constraints. By combining their complementary strengths, CR could help address some of these limitations and support more flexible, continuous, and human-centered work experiences. Despite this potential, CR remains an emerging research field, and its industrial applications have not yet been thoroughly explored. To address this gap, this study is framed as a conceptual design investigation grounded in a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The SLR identifies and analyzes existing CR studies and applications in industrial contexts. Its findings indicate that, despite growing research interest, concrete and mature industrial CR applications remain limited. The reviewed studies nevertheless indicate potential benefits for workflow efficiency, collaboration, workload reduction, and usability. Building on the evidence and research gaps identified through the SLR, a collaborative design session involving academic and industrial experts in AR and VR was conducted to develop prospective CR application concepts across seven industrial domains identified in the literature. Overall, the study provides both a systematic account of the current state of industrial CR research and a set of conceptual directions for future development and empirical validation.
As XR technologies continuously evolve, research has increasingly examined XR systems that integrate multiple forms of reality. This has given rise to the concept of "multi‑reality", an experience that span user interactions across the Reality-Virtuality (RV) continuum: reality, augmented reality (AR), augmented virtua...

The transition towards a circular economy (CE) requires more than technological innovation: it also depends on making complex circular systems understandable and translating their principles into practice. However, knowledge gaps and practical challenges continue to hinder the broader adoption of CE. Extended reality (...

Transitions among physical, augmented, and virtual reality are a critical design problem in cross-reality systems. Prior research has identified transition-related challenges, but predominantly in spatially constrained lab environments, leaving open how such challenges unfold across the diverse transitions and contexts...

This study aims to systematically review the current applications and development trends of virtual reality (VR) technology in blue space research. It clarifies the main research methods, technical pathways, application scenarios, and existing knowledge gaps, and integrates the advantages of VR technology with the char...
Virtual Reality (VR) applications based on real-world contexts, such as training, healthcare, and entertainment, rely on varying degrees of replication of real settings. However, there is a lack of systematic design support for determining which elements of a setting to retain or modify. We propose Behavior Setting M...

The shift toward digitalisation accelerated the usage of online exhibitions; however, flat-screen platforms are still constrained in terms of spatial experience, interactivity, and social presence, all of which are required in industrial design education. This study addresses the lack of experiential quality in convent...
