Abstract

By a result of Bogomolov and Zarhin, a K3 surface $X$ over a number field $L$ has ordinary reduction at a density 1 set of primes after passing to a finite extension of $L$. In this paper, we refine this result for non-CM K3 surfaces whose transcendental Hodge structure has endomorphism field $F$ abelian over $\mathbb{Q}$. We further assume a condition on the connected components of the $l$-adic monodromy group of $X$, and, when $F$ is totally real, a parity condition on the rank of the transcendental lattice over $F$. Under these assumptions, we prove that the set of primes of $L$ at which $X$ has $\mu$-ordinary reduction has density $1$. As a corollary, the set of primes of $L$ at which $X$ has ordinary reduction has density $1/[FL:L]$. We include explicit examples of K3 surfaces satisfying these conditions.

Densities of Picard Rank Jumps for K3 Surfaces Over Global Fields

Let $X$ be an algebraic K3 surface defined over a global field $K$ of characteristic $0$ or $p \geq 3$, assumed ordinary in the case where $K$ is a global function field. We provide an exact formula for the density of primes $p$ of $K$ at which the geometric Neron-Severi group of the reduction $X_p$ has a given rank in...

Zeta elements for $p$-ordinary modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields and applications

Let $p\geq 5$ be a prime, and let $f$ be a $p$-ordinary cuspidal newform of even weight $k = 2r \geq 2$ and level $N$, with $p \nmid N$ and trivial nebentype. In this article, we prove Kato's Iwasawa main conjecture for $f$, formulated in terms of the $p$-adic $L$-function of $f$, under the sole assumptions that the as...

Kolyvagin's conjecture at non-ordinary primes

Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field and let $p \ge 5$ be a prime that is unramified in $K$. Let $\mathcal{A}_f/\mathbb{Q}$ be an abelian variety of $\mathrm{GL}_2$-type associated with a weight-two modular form $f$, with good non-ordinary reduction at $p$, and suppose that $(f,K)$ satisfies the generalized Heegner...

The classification of generalised Kummer surfaces in positive characteristic

Building on earlier work of Katsura and Rybakov, we complete the classification, in every characteristic, of all groups $G$ acting on an abelian surface $A$ by automorphisms preserving the group law such that the resolution of the quotient $A/G$ is a K3 surface. In order to do so, we study actions of groups with $p\mid...

On Fano varieties of index one that are linear sections of Grassmannians of lines

In this paper we consider the general $n-2$ dimensional linear section $X$ of the Grassmannian $\mathbb G(1,n)$ of lines in $\mathbb{P}^n$, that is a Fano variety of index 1. We first prove that for $n$ odd $X$ is birational to a hypersurface defined by a pfaffian determinant of order $n+1$ of linear forms in $\mathbb{...

$p$-adic Equidistribution of Special Loci in a Product of Modular Curves

Let $C\subset X(1)\times X(1)$ be a smooth curve defined over $\mathbb{C}_p$ with irreducible reduction. We study the intersection loci of $C$ with the modular subvarieties $Y_0(n)$. If the curve $C$ avoids points where both coordinates have supersingular reduction, or if a sequence $Y_0(a_n)$ is taken where the number...
