THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE POST-PARTITION GENERATION TO HINDI LITERATURE: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY
Abstract
The Partition of India (1947) was a watershed event that not only altered the political geography but also profoundly impacted cultural, social, and literary structures. This historic tragedy forced millions to grapple with displacement, violence, insecurity, and crises of identity. The post-Partition generation of Hindi writers gave voice to this collective anguish in their works, enriching literature with realistic sensibilities and human compassion. This research paper aims to analyze how the post-Partition generation articulated themes such as displacement, refugee life, women's experiences, communal tension, social disintegration, and the process of reconstruction through literary expression. The study employs a comparative and analytical approach, examining novels, short stories, and memoirs from a historical-cultural perspective. The findings indicate that post-Partition Hindi literature is not merely a record of tragedy; it also reflects the emerging consciousness of Indian society, democratic values, the concept of pluralism, and the reconstruction of human coexistence. By bridging the pain of the past with the possibilities of the present, the works of this generation steer literature toward a new ideological direction.
