Abstract

Aim . To investigate modern approaches to the practical preparation of medical university students by comparing the content of general medical practice curricula and other types of clinical placements developed by higher education institutions in the Russian Federation. Material and methods . We compared steering documents of industrial internships included in the curriculum of the specialist program in the specialty "General Medicine" at 29 higher education institutions in Russia. The programs were compared based on the overall workload of the internships, the goals and objectives, the proposed practical skills, and the clinical sites. Results . The absence of a standardized understanding regarding the content of various industrial practice types, their integration into the educational process, and a consistent naming convention for programs (e.g., "Diagnostic Profile Practice") has been revealed. Additionally, a substantial range in the overall credit hours/workload for practices of the same category was noted. Conclusion . We rationaled the use of uniform internship program formats across all universities, developed based on model (basic) or recommended internship programs, while maintaining the institution's ability to select one or more types of industrial internship or establish an additional type. A conclusion was reached regarding the advisability of standardizing the names of the main types of internship proposed by the Federal State Educational Standard, securing their place within the educational process. Using "General Medical Practice" as an example, we proposed to use the name "Practice in Providing Primary Medical and Sanitary Care in Therapy", defining its timing in the 11 th -12 th semesters (6 th year of study).
