Internet of Things in Real Estate
Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of connected physical devices, including sensors, meters, cameras, actuators, and smart appliances, that gather data, communicate with other systems, and, in some cases, initiate automated responses. In real estate, IoT transforms buildings from largely passive physical assets into intelligent, observable, and manageable environments. Property owners, facility managers, investors, developers, and occupants can use connected technologies to monitor building performance, reduce unnecessary operating costs, enhance safety, and provide a more responsive tenant experience. As a result, the value of IoT in real estate goes beyond technological novelty; it lies in connecting real-time property data with more informed operational decisions. This paper examines the impact of IoT on the real estate industry.
