Abstract

This study explored the development and validation of a digitized project-based learning material. This is guided by the cross-disciplinary approach in teaching senior high school statistics using local climate concepts. Anchored on Constructivism Learning Theory, this study was conducted using developmental research design, which comprised three sequential and interdependent stages: analysis, design and development, and validation and evaluation. For the analysis and design development stages, two science teachers, two statistics teachers, two climate change experts, one educational technology expert, and one project-based learning expert were purposively selected and participated in the two stages of interview. Using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase thematic analysis, seven themes emerged: integrated statistics and climate competence for informed action, active, collaborative, and technology-enhanced project-based approaches, comprehensive, authentic, and reflective project-based assessment, purposeful and scaffolded project-based learning, interactive and visual interface design, usability and accessibility features, and real-time feedback and support systems. Based on the insights from the interviews, the project-based learning material was developed and underwent expert validation and evaluation with five purposively selected experts in the field of educational technology and project-based learning. The digitized material received an overall mean score of 4.16, indicating that the developed project-based learning material anchored on the emerging themes possessed high level of pedagogical-technological consistency and functionality. The findings reveal that the intertwining framework of constructivist instructional design and interactive digital design upholds the development of inquiry-based, project-based, and contextualized learning materials which are pedagogically and technologically reliable and operational.
