2026 · Bulletin of Medical Sciences · 0 citations

Abstract

This article outlines the initial findings of a research study focused on mental health among individuals diagnosed with diabetes and its associated complications. It investigates variations in mental health status, alongside age-related, gender-specific, and sociopsychological traits, across two distinct patient groups: those experiencing complications like diabetic foot syndrome and those who are not. Objective. To explore the characteristics of mental health in patients afflicted with complications of diabetes mellitus, while considering age-related, gender-specific, and sociopsychological factors, with the aim of enhancing medical care for this patient demographic. Materials and Methods. This study involved the examination of two distinct patient groups. The first group comprised 62 individuals from the Vascular Surgery Department of the Barnaul Clinical Hospital (RR-Medicine) diagnosed with diabetic foot syndrome. The second group consisted of 58 patients from the Endocrinology Department of the Barnaul Regional Clinical Hospital, who did not exhibit significant complications related to diabetes. The research was carried out between September 2025 and May 2026. The methodologies employed in this study included clinical assessments, psychopathological evaluations, experimental procedures, psychological analyses, and statistical evaluations. Results. Research indicates thaRt diabetic foot syndrome is associated with male gender, reduced levels of anxiety and depression, an external locus of control, non-adherence to dietary guidelines, and insufficient experience in diabetes education programs.
