Abstract

Water pollution is one of the most pressing issues in the world that requires new approaches to guarantee the sustainable use of water. This paper discusses the combination of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and Circular Economy (CE) concepts as viable solutions to water pollution prevention and treatment. NbS, including wetlands, riparian buffers, and green infrastructure, utilize natural processes to filter and treat pollutants, whereas CE emphasizes resource recovery, water reuse, and waste reduction. These methods have complementary benefits, improved water quality, resource efficiency, and ecosystem resilience. Nevertheless, there are difficulties in scaling such solutions, including technical design, economic investment, regulatory frameworks, and social acceptance. In spite of these challenges, technology, policy, and funding are making inroads into wider adoption. The paper has pointed out the overlaps between NbS and CE, which have created a model for a more sustainable and resilient water management system worldwide. Through these combined strategies, communities will be able to not only solve water pollution but also support environmental sustainability and loop-based resource utilization in the long term.
