Process Intelligence in the Digital Age: A Systematic Review of BPM-Driven Transformation
Abstract
Digital transformation demands the organisations to restructure its processes to enhance competitive advantage. Yet, studies state that 70% of such initiatives increase the cost of operations and also lead to failure due to many factors. Research states that the main reason for this failure is due to the improper transformation and not due to technological issues. The Business Process Management (BPM) has been recognised as an essential facilitator in overcoming these challenges by harmonising traditional processes into digital initiatives embedding the organisational frameworks. This study assesses fifty studies conducted between 2020 and 2026 in this domain and uncovers five principal themes concerning BPM's role in transformation: its facilitative structural function, technology integration, maturity as a success factor, human elements in change, and sector-specific applications. The results show that using existing BPM methods can improve efficiency by 30-96% and cut costs by 25-40%.
