2026 · International journal of research and innovation in social science · 0 citations

Abstract

National security is a multifaceted concept that encompasses a broad spectrum of threats, ranging from traditional military challenges to emerging non-traditional threats such as cyber warfare, economic espionage, and transnational terrorism. In order to effectively safeguard a nation's interests, it is imperative to conduct a comprehensive national security audit that considers the diverse and evolving nature of these threats. This article explores the significance of a holistic approach to national security audit, examining the various dimensions of threat perception that must be taken into account. The first dimension involves traditional military threats, encompassing conventional warfare, asymmetric conflicts, and geopolitical tensions. A robust national security audit must evaluate the nation's military capabilities, readiness, and strategic alliances to counter potential aggression and maintain regional stability. The second dimension delves into the realm of cybersecurity and information warfare. With the increasing digitization of society, critical infrastructure, and governmental systems, the vulnerability to cyber threats has become a major concern. The article emphasizes the need for rigorous cybersecurity audits, including the assessment of defensive mechanisms, incident response capabilities, and collaboration with international partners to combat cyber threats. The third dimension considers economic security, recognizing that economic stability is integral to national security. The audit should address issues such as trade imbalances, industrial espionage, and the resilience of economic systems in the face of global disruptions. The article explores the importance of intelligence and counterterrorism efforts in mitigating the threats posed by transnational actors. A comprehensive national security audit should evaluate the efficiency of intelligence agencies, international cooperation in intelligence-sharing, and counterterrorism strategies to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism. The role of climate change, pandemics, and other non-traditional threats in the contemporary threat landscape will also be discussed herein. A forward-looking national security audit should assess the nation's resilience to environmental challenges, public health crises, and other global issues that have the potential to impact national security. This article argues for a broad and adaptive national security audit that considers the diverse spectrum of threat perceptions by addressing traditional and non-traditional threats comprehensively.
