Strategic Flexibility and Organizational Performance in Nigeria’s Manufacturing Sector

Abstract

The primary goal of this study was to investigate the impact of strategic flexibility on organizational performance at Niger Mills Ltd, Calabar. In other words, the study aimed to find out the influence of resource flexibility, operational flexibility, and technological flexibility on organizational performance. Descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. The population for this study is the total number of employees working in Niger Mills Ltd, Calabar. The population for this study was all 375 employees working in Niger Mills Ltd, Calabar regardless of their positions in managerial and non-managerial level and irrespective of whether they work in production departments, administration department, technical operations or other departments within the organization. With the help of the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size determination table, a sample size of 191 respondents was determined. Simple random sampling technique was applied to provide every member of the population an equal chance of selection for the study. To collect primary data, structured questionnaire was developed based on Likert scale of rating from strongly agree to strongly disagree. For data analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics were used, whereas multiple regression analysis was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27.0. Resource flexibility has a positive and statistically significant impact on organizational performance. Operational flexibility has a positive and statistically significant impact on organizational performance. Technological flexibility has a positive and statistically significant impact on organizational performance in Niger Mills Ltd, Calabar. These results imply that Niger Mills Ltd becomes more productive and efficient when it can flexibly utilize its resources, adjust its processes, introduce relevant technology and train its employees.
