Implementation of STM 32 based Emulator Design of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor
Abstract
The increasing adoption of electric vehicles has led to a growing demand for reliable and efficient testing platforms for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM).The use of single phase PMSM in two wheeler electric vehicles has necessitated the need for development of low cost emulators. While conventional real-time emulators utilize high-performance FPGA or PowerPC platforms, this paper proposes the implementation of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor digital emulator using a high-performance STM32 microcontroller.Several discretisation techniques like Zero-Order Hold (ZOH), First-Order Hold (FOH), Tustin transformation, and Matched Z-transform are employed and tested with various sampling times. A detailed evaluation is carried out using four time domain metric namely Mean Squared Error (MSE),Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE),Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Integral Absolute Error (IAE) and three frequency domain metrics namely Magnitude Error, Phase Error and H∞ Norm. The best-performing model is deployed on an STM32 platform to emulate motor dynamics in real time. The proposed system emulated the PMSM motor performance under static conditions.
