2026 · International Journal of Allied Sciences and Research · 0 citations

Abstract

The present study aims to establish a coherent and systematic framework for identifying, analyzing, and minimizing numerical errors arising in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, particularly in the numerical solution of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). The central objective is to enhance the accuracy, stability, and computational reliability of numerical schemes by integrating both classical and advanced approaches to error control. To achieve this, our study adopts a hybrid analytical–computational methodology. It employs finite difference methods, including both standard and high-order compact schemes, for discretizing governing equations. A structured error analysis is carried out to evaluate truncation, discretization, and stability-related errors under varying grid resolutions and time steps. Benchmark nonlinear PDE models are used to investigate convergence characteristics and error propagation. Furthermore, adaptive grid refinement and improved numerical formulations are implemented to optimize performance. The findings demonstrate that while classical methods are simple and computationally efficient, they often suffer from significant error accumulation. In contrast, high-order compact schemes exhibit superior accuracy and stability, delivering near-spectral precision with reduced stencil size. The study also highlights the inherent trade-offs between computational cost, stability, and accuracy, emphasizing the importance of selecting appropriate schemes based on problem requirements. Our study presented in this paper, holds practical significance for applications in fluid flow modeling, heat transfer analysis, and other engineering simulations involving complex PDE systems. Its novelty lies in presenting a unified perspective that combines theoretical error analysis with practical implementation strategies, thereby bridging a critical gap in CFD research and advancing the development of more reliable numerical solutions.
