Abstract

Municipal solid waste (MSW) are unwanted or undesirable products obtained from food-scraps, papers, plastics, electronic waste, metals, glass and other used materials from our day to day domestic, institutional and industrial activities which are discharged into the environment. However, as the global production of MSW increases due to increase in population, economic and industrial advancement and urbanization in Nigeria, MSW has become a global concern due to its persistence in the environment, causing various issues like climatic change, global warming and contamination of soil, air and water resources. As a result, researchers have delved into different technologies of managing waste in an environmentally friendly manner. The Municipal Solid Waste management that presents opportunities to reduce waste, its negative impacts and transform waste to energy (wealth) becomes highly imperative. Continued research into innovative solution for waste recycling via incineration is crucial for sustainable future in Nigeria.
