Joint Statement of Intent on the Digital Transformation in the international Scientific and Quality Infrastructure
Abstract
The Joint Statement of Intent (JSI) provides a platform for the signatory organizations to come together to indicate their support, in a way appropriate to their particular organization, to the development, implementation, and promotion of the SI Digital Framework as part of a wider digital transformation of the international scientific and quality infrastructure. Representatives are the following standardization organizations and scientific institutions: CIE, CIPM, CODATA, IEC, ILAC, IMEKO, ISC, ISO, NCSLI, OIML. The JSI is part of an ongoing initiative by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) and its Task Group on the Digital SI (CIPM-TG-DSI) to develop and establish a world-wide uniform and secure data exchange format based on the International System of Units (SI). The basis of the cooperation is the creation of a common understanding and exchange of mutual information in the description of digital standards within the framework of their own developments. The signatories aim to support the development of a digital infrastructure within the framework of the Metre Convention and to support developments such as the SI Reference Point. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CIE, The International Commission on Illumination is devoted to worldwide cooperation and the exchange of information on all matters relating to the science and art of light and lighting, colour and vision, photobiology and image technology. CIPM The principal task of the International Committee for Weights and Measures is to promote world-wide uniformity in units of measurement by direct action or by submitting draft resolutions to the General Conference. CODATA The Committee on Data of the International Science Council (ISC) exists to promote global collaboration to improve the availability and usability of data for all areas of research. IEC The International Electrotechnical Commission publishes International Standards for electrotechnology and provides a platform to companies, industries and governments for meeting, discussing and developing the International Standards they require. ILAC The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation is an international cooperation between the various laboratory accreditation schemes operated throughout the world and facilitates trade by promotion of the acceptance of accredited test and calibration results. IMEKO The International Measurement Confederation is a non-governmental federation of 42 Member Organizations individually concerned with the advancement of measurement technology. ISC The International Science Council catalyses and convenes scientific expertise, advice and influence on issues of major concern to both science and society through a unique global membership of natural and social sciences and humanities. ISO The International Organization for Standardization develops and publishes voluntary consensus-based International Standards for a variety of fields and topics, providing state-of-the-art specifications for products, services and good practices, serving one purpose: Making lives easier, safer and better. NCSLI The vision of the National Conference of Standards Laboratories International is to be the world's recognized source for measurement science expertise and information. OIML The mission of the International Organization of Legal Metrology is to enable economies to put in place effective legal metrology infrastructures that are mutually compatible and internationally recognized.
