Harnessing Knowledge for Growth: Future Trends and Potentialities in Knowledge Management and Economic Development

Abstract

Purpose: This paper examines how knowledge management (KM) is evolving to support the growth of the knowledge economy and identifies trends, opportunities, and future possibilities aimed at promoting innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development in the digital age. Methods: The study uses a narrative review combining current literature, theoretical viewpoints, and new practices concerning KM and the knowledge economy. Special attention is given to advances in artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing, intellectual capital, and joint knowledge ecosystems. Results: The results show that knowledge management has become a strategic driver of economic transformation by promoting effective creation, sharing, and use of knowledge assets. Emerging technologies are altering KM systems, enhancing organizational learning, aiding immediate decision-making, and reinforcing organizations' ability to adapt and innovate. Moreover, the findings highlight the growing importance of intellectual capital and knowledge democratization in promoting participatory and sustainable development within organizations and economies. Originality: This article presents an integrated view of the dynamic relationship between KM and the knowledge economy by bringing together the latest developments and future trends within one framework. It makes a contribution to the existing body of literature by highlighting the key technological and organizational factors that are influencing knowledge-based economic growth and provides valuable insights for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers who are attempting to use knowledge as a strategic resource in a world that is becoming more uncertain and increasingly digitally networked.
