A bibliometric investigation of research trends in environmental, social, and governance research using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny

This study analyses the development, conceptual foundations, and emerging directions of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) research, with particular emphasis on its contribution to business sustainability and financial performance. It aims to map the dominant research themes in the ESG literature, examine the contributions of prominent authors, institutions, journals, and countries, and identify promising avenues for future research. The study adopts a quantitative bibliometric approach based on secondary data drawn from the Scopus database. A structured screening procedure was applied to peer reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and review papers published in English between 2015 and 2025 that explicitly addressed ESG concepts, yielding a final sample of 2,878 publications from 607 journals. Bibliometric indicators, including authorship patterns, citation structures, institutional and country contributions, journal sources, and keyword co occurrences, were examined using VOSviewer and R Studio (Biblioshiny). The findings indicate significant expansion and diversification of ESG research over the study period, organised around six core thematic clusters: sustainable development, business values, corporate social responsibility, ESG disclosure, ESG investment, and corporate strategy. The study identifies the most influential contributors and sources shaping ESG scholarship and points to growing research opportunities in the strategic and financial integration of ESG factors.

The role of clusters in fostering entrepreneurship: A bibliometric study of global research trends

This paper conducts a bibliometric exploration of research linking two concepts i.e. clusters and entrepreneurship, a domain that has expanded steadily over the past thirty years. Using 155 peer-reviewed articles sourced from the Dimensions database (1996–2025), the study applies the SPAR-4-SLR framework along with visualization software (VOSviewer) to identify intellectual patterns in publication trend, citations trend, influential journals, influential field of research and new themes map. The analysis highlights a consistent growth in publications from the early 2000s, with output peaking around 2021, followed by diversification into new thematic directions. Contributions are geographically widespread, though the United States accounts for much of the citation influence, particularly through foundational studies by Feldman (2001, 2005) and Sonfield & Lussier (2004). Among journals, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development leads in productivity, whereas Industrial and Corporate Change demonstrates higher citation impact. Bibliographic coupling reveals eight thematic clusters, centering on networks, social capital, proximity, and entrepreneurial capability as drivers of cluster vitality. Emerging topics such as digital entrepreneurship, artisanal industries, and handloom clusters suggest the field’s increasing socio-economic scope. Overall, the findings emphasize clusters as catalysts of innovation, entrepreneurship and regional competitiveness, while offering insights for scholars and policymakers interested in advancing sustainable and entrepreneurship-driven development.

A bibliometric mapping of discourse analysis research in Türkiye: Trends, collaboration and scholarly impact

This article, which presents a bibliometric analysis of discourse analysis research in Türkiye, systematically evaluates nearly 50 years of production in the field using the Scopus database. The findings of the research indicate that discourse studies in Türkiye are predominantly concentrated in the social sciences and humanities. The most prominent thematic concentrations are on political discourse, nationalism, populism, gender, and European Union debates. While Critical Discourse Analysis stands out as the dominant methodological approach, innovative techniques such as multimodal analysis or corpus-based methods appear to be insufficient. An examination of language preferences reveals that English is overwhelmingly preferred for global visibility, while Turkish remains an important local production language. Institutional performance analyses reveal that Bilkent, Koç, and Boğaziçi universities hold leading positions in terms of both publication volume and citation impact. An examination of collaborative networks among authors reveals that individuals such as Deniz Zeyrek and Bedrettin Yazan play a central role. However, it is also true that a significant portion of the 2,883 authors remain outside these collaborative networks. International collaborations and citation rates demonstrate that the integration of researchers in Türkiye with the global academy is becoming increasingly stronger, but this interaction can be further enhanced. The study also points to significant gaps in the existing literature. The limited number of discourse studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, the inadequate research in contemporary contexts such as digital platforms and artificial intelligence, and the limited methodological diversity are among the most prominent shortcomings.

The board of directors characteristics research: A bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and Rstudio

The Board of Directors (BOD) is widely recognized as a central governance mechanism influencing corporate effectiveness, strategic decision-making, and organizational performance. As corporate governance challenges have intensified in the post–global financial crisis era, scholarly interest in board characteristics has expanded significantly, generating a rapidly growing and fragmented body of literature. In response, this study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to systematically map the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and emerging research trends in studies on board of directors’ characteristics over the period 2014–2025. Using 862 peer-reviewed journal articles retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, this study applies performance analysis and science mapping techniques with the support of Bibliometrix (R) and VOSviewer. The analysis includes descriptive statistics, citation and co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling, keyword co-occurrence, three-field plots, and thematic evolution analysis. The results show that publication output has grown a lot since 2018, with Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China being the most important contributors. The bibliographic coupling and cocitation analyses identify three dominant thematic clusters: (1) corporate governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and firm performance; (2) board characteristics and firm outcomes; and (3) ownership structure, governance mechanisms, and firm performance. Furthermore, thematic evolution analysis highlights a gradual shift from traditional board structure and agency-oriented research toward emerging themes related to board diversity, ESG (environmental, social, and governance), audit committees, executive roles, and sustainability-oriented governance. By extending the temporal scope beyond earlier bibliometric reviews and incorporating advanced visualization techniques, this study provides updated and more nuanced evidence on the evolution of board characteristics research. The findings contribute to the corporate governance literature by illustrating the field’s theoretical transition toward broader stakeholder-oriented perspectives and provide helpful suggestions to scholars, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to enhance governance effectiveness in an increasingly sustainability-driven business environment.

Research Hotspots and Development Trends of Reablement From 1999 to 2025: A Bibliometric Analysis

Aims: This study aims to explore the current research status, hotspots, and emerging trends of reablement and provide references for further research in this field. Methods: English-language literature related to reablement was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, covering the period from January 1, 1999 to October 20, 2025. The software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct visual bibliometric analyses of eligible publications, including annual publication output, countries, authors, institutions, cited references, and keywords. Results: A total of 276 publications were included. Overall, the number of publications showed an increasing trend over time. The United States contributed the largest number of publications, followed by Australia and Norway, and Resnick was the most productive author. The top five keywords by frequency were “older adults”, “reablement”, “intervention”, “people”, and “physical activity”. Intervention studies and qualitative studies were the main research types, with application-focused research hotspots primarily concentrated on improving physical activity among service recipients. Conclusions: Research on reablement has attracted increasing attention. Future studies should focus on conducting high-quality empirical research to identify optimal intervention strategies, as well as sensitive assessment tools and outcome indicators. In addition, researchers are encouraged to draw on existing experiences to actively promote home-based reablement services and explore the development of reablement models tailored to national contexts.
