SOCIO-ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF DIGITALIZATION OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES IN RUSSIA

Aug 2026 · Bulletin of Chelyabinsk State University · 0 citations

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the socio-economic effects of digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Russia. The methodology includes an overview of relevant scientific sources and an analysis of official Rosstat statistics for 2021-2023. The scientific novelty lies in the development of the author’s classification of SME digitalization levels and the identification, based on Rosstat data, of a dissonance between the high financial performance of the sector and the low level of adoption of advanced digital technologies. The results showed that digital transformation contributes to productivity growth, optimization of business processes, expansion of market access and creation of new jobs. However, barriers have been identified: lack of funding, low digital literacy, and limited government support. Empirical analysis confirmed that, despite the growth of key indicators (turnover, profit, profitability), only a small proportion of small enterprises systematically use digital tools. Development prospects are related to the integration of SMEs into digital ecosystems, strengthening government support measures and developing human resources. The conclusions emphasize the need for an integrated approach to the digitalization of SMEs to enhance their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.
