Assessment of patent activity in the Far East

2026 · ACCOUNTING AND CONTROL · 0 citations

Abstract

The article examines the role of patent activity as a key indicator of innovative development in the context of Russia's strategic priority for the 21st century – the development of the Far East. It is emphasized that in a knowledge-based economy, the region's ability to generate and commercialize new technologies is becoming a major factor in its competitiveness. At the 10th Eastern Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the need to transform the Far East into an advanced region for digital development. The introduction of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and drones is seen as a way to increase efficiency and ensure safety in the face of global technological competition. The analysis of patent statistics shows that, despite the growing number of patent applications in Russia, the Far East demonstrates low rates of patent activity, which is associated with the historically resource-based economy and insufficient integration of scientific research with manufacturing enterprises. The article also presents data on the distribution of patent applications by region and reveals a significant concentration of patent activity in the Primorsky Territory, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Khabarovsk Territory. The need to create conditions for cooperation between scientific institutions and business is emphasized, which can contribute to the transition of the region's economy from a raw material model to a high-tech economy.
