Abstract

Multiplication learning in elementary schools often faces challenges due to the limited use of interactive learning media and low student engagement during instruction. This study aimed to develop an interactive multimedia integrated with gamification for multiplication learning at the elementary school level. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using an adapted 4D model, focusing on the Define, Design, and Develop phases, while the Disseminate phase was limited to preliminary classroom implementation. The multimedia was designed by integrating gamification elements such as level progression, visual animation, narratives, rewards, immediate feedback, and time challenges to support students’ engagement and understanding of multiplication concepts. The multimedia, entitled The Secret Island of Multiplication, was implemented with 41 elementary school students. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, a student satisfaction questionnaire, brief student responses, and classroom implementation notes. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings indicated that students’ post-test scores improved significantly after using the multimedia (p <.05) with a moderate effect size. Students also reported positive learning experiences, particularly regarding enjoyment, visual appearance, and ease of use. These findings suggest that the developed interactive multimedia demonstrated preliminary potential to support multiplication learning in elementary education.
