Abstract

Matrix frequency converters remain the subject of ongoing scientific and technical research and have not yet entered the global market for power-conversion technologies. Nevertheless, the topology of the power section of matrix frequency converters, which allows operation without a large-scale input filter, eliminates the need for a DC circuit, and enables relatively simple control of the input power factor, makes this type of transducer an interesting subject for research. Researchers are particularly drawn to the development of energy-efficient electric drive systems based on asynchronous motors controlled by matrix frequency converters. The growing number of scientific publications in this field confirms the advantages of matrix frequency converters over traditional inverters with a constant voltage link. The modeling was based on the performance theory of induction motors using the capabilities of the MATLAB Simulink software package. The simulation results indicate that an electric drive controlled by a matrix frequency converter achieves high efficiency. These results were applied in the development of a matrix converter prototype at the laboratory of Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies. The article also presents an innovative topology of an AC/AC converter employing scalar control.
