Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technological force with significant implications for the future of the labour market, particularly through its effects on employment, occupational structures, productivity, wages, skill requirements, and economic growth. The rapid adoption of AI-driven technologies, automation, machine learning, and intelligent systems has the potential to enhance productivity, create new employment opportunities, and improve the efficiency of production and service delivery. At the same time, the displacement or transformation of routine and repetitive jobs, changing skill requirements, wage inequalities, and the possibility of widening labour-market disparities have generated significant economic and social concerns. This study examines the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the labour market, with particular emphasis on the opportunities, challenges, and broader economic implications of AI adoption. It specifically investigates the relationship between AI adoption, employment opportunities, job displacement, productivity, wages, skill development, occupational transformation, and workers’ adaptability. The study is based on primary data collected from 250 respondents and employs descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and hypothesis testing to assess the relationship between Artificial Intelligence adoption and labour-market outcomes. The empirical analysis is expected to reveal a significant relationship between the adoption of AI technologies and changes in employment patterns, productivity, skill requirements, and income opportunities. The study further examines whether factors such as educational qualification, occupational category, work experience, income level, access to digital resources, technical skills, opportunities for reskilling and upskilling, and workers’ adaptive capacity influence the extent to which AI affects employment outcomes. The findings highlight the need for effective skill-development programmes, continuous reskilling and upskilling, supportive labour-market policies, responsible AI adoption, and inclusive strategies to ensure that technological advancement generates sustainable employment opportunities while reducing the adverse effects of job displacement and labour-market inequality. The study contributes to understanding the intersection between Artificial Intelligence, technological transformation, employment, and economic development and provides insights into strategies for preparing workers and labour markets for the evolving future of work.
