Sep 2026 · INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND MANAGEMENT RESEARCH · 0 citations

Abstract

Climate change has become a major threat to environmental sustainability and food security in Nigeria, particularly among rural communities that rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. Increasing incidences of drought, flooding, desertification, land degradation, and erratic rainfall have significantly reduced agricultural productivity and intensified food insecurity. This position paper defined the concept of Community-Based Climate Change Adaptation (CBCCA) as a strategic approach to strengthening environmental sustainability and enhancing food security in Nigeria. State cause of community-based climate adaptation. The paperwork identified community-based climate change adaptation approaches. It further highlights the institutional, financial, and policy challenges limiting the widespread adoption of community-based adaptation practices. It recommends stronger policy support, increased investment in local adaptation initiatives, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and the integration of community knowledge into climate governance. The paper concludes that institutionalizing CBCCA is essential for promoting resilient ecosystems, sustainable agricultural production, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 13 (Climate Action) in Nigeria.
