Frame Design and Structural Analysis of a Can Waste Press Machine Using SolidWorks 2022

Aug 2026 · Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Technology · 0 citations

Abstract

The increasing consumption of canned beverages generates aluminum waste that must be properly managed through recycling. This study aims to design and analyze the frame of a can waste press machine using SolidWorks 2022 to effectively and efficiently reduce waste volume. The research methodology includes literature review, material selection, 3D frame design, load application, and structural simulation. The material selected is AISI 1020 steel with a yield strength of 350 MPa, chosen for its ease of fabrication, good weldability, and economical production cost. The machine is designed with a pressing force capacity of 6,000 N, a stroke of 200–250 mm, and powered by a single-phase 220V electric motor of 0.75 HP. Simulation results indicate that the frame withstands operational loads without excessive deformation in critical areas. Von Mises stress analysis yields 192 N/mm², with a safety factor of 1.8 from theoretical calculation and 2.00 from software simulation, confirming the design is in the safe category. Comparison with Alloy Steel yields a safety factor of 3.2 theoretically and 3.37 by simulation, indicating potential for material optimization at higher loads.
