Abstract

The manual operation of water pumps for filling storage tanks can cause inefficient pump runtime, delayed shutdown, water overflow, and limited information about water use and electricity consumption. This study aimed to design and evaluate an automatic water tank level control and monitoring system to improve electrical energy efficiency at the Universitas Pamulang Campus Serang garden. The research employed a research-and-development approach combined with quantitative experimental testing. The system integrates a Schneider M221 PLC, A02YY4W V2 ultrasonic sensor, YF-G1 water flow sensors, Schneider A9MEM2050 energy meter, Haiwell B7H-E HMI, and Haiwell Link IoT monitoring. Tests covered level measurement, flow and volume measurement, electrical parameters, pump control, and comparison of energy consumption before and after automation. The ultrasonic sensor achieved an average error of 0.45% with 99.55% accuracy, while the water flow sensor showed an average error of 1.2% and 98.8% accuracy. Energy-meter testing produced a mean difference of 0.011 kWh between calculated and measured energy. During ten-day observations, electricity consumption decreased from 69.73 kWh before automation to 67.00 kWh after automation, equivalent to a 3.92% reduction. The developed system therefore provides automatic pump control and real-time monitoring while improving the control of water and electrical energy use.
