Digital literacy and artificial intelligence in the professional training of future teachers
Abstract
This article examines the issue of developing digital literacy and integrating artificial intelligence technologies into the professional training of future teachers in the context of the digital transformation of education. It justifies the need to develop not only technical skills for working with digital resources but also the ability to critically evaluate information, use artificial intelligence technologies responsibly, and adhere to the principles of academic integrity, digital ethics, and information security. The purpose of this article is to justify the specific aspects of developing digital literacy among future teachers and to identify opportunities for using artificial intelligence technologies in their professional training. The methodological basis of the study consists of the analysis and synthesis of scientific sources, regulatory documents, and international frameworks for digital competence, as well as systematization, modeling, and surveys of students. The essence of the concepts of “digital literacy”, “artificial intelligence”, and “professional training” has been clarified. An original classification of the components of digital literacy developed through working with generative AI services has been devised. An experimental study was conducted during 2025–2026 among students majoring in education at Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. The study found that future teachers have a positive attitude toward the use of generative artificial intelligence and confirmed the advisability of integrating it into the professional training curriculum. The paper justifies the need to combine digital tools with pedagogically sound teaching methods, practical activities, and the development of a critical approach to the results of AI work. Prospects for further research are linked to the development of diagnostic tools and the experimental testing of pedagogical conditions for the development of digital literacy using generative artificial intelligence.
