Sep 2026 · Revista de Estudos Interdisciplinares · 0 citations

Abstract

This study aims to map scientific evidence regarding the impact of electronic health records (EHRs) on nursing work in hospitals between 2020 and 2026. It is a scoping review conducted in accordance with Joanna Briggs Institute recommendations and reported following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Searches were performed in MEDLINE/PubMed, BVS/LILACS Plus, and OpenAlex, covering publications from 2020 to 2026. Only studies addressing the use of EHRs in daily hospital nursing practice were considered, focusing on aspects such as work organization, documentation workload and quality, and professional communication. A total of 3,226 records were identified, and 31 studies were selected after analysis. Results showed positive effects, such as improvements in the organization and quality of records, as well as negative effects, such as poor usability and increased workload. The impacts vary depending on the technology used and working conditions; therefore, planning must take usability and process integration into account.
