The Strategic Role of Cloud Computing in LARG Supply Chain Strategies: An Integrative Framework Based on a Systematic Literature Review
Abstract
Background: Cloud computing has become a fundamental digital infrastructure to supply chain (SC) digitalization, supporting the implementation of Lean, Agile, Resilient and Green (LARG) strategies. Although previous studies have examined its contribution to individual SC strategies, the organizational capabilities through which cloud computing supports different strategic orientations remain fragmented. This study addresses this gap by systematically reviewing the literature and developing an integrative framework of cloud-enabled organizational capabilities. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) 2020 guidelines. Relevant studies were identified, screened and systematically coded. Reported capabilities were synthesized into five domains: Information, Integration, Operational, Decision, and Control. Results: The review identifies distinct capability configurations across LARG strategies. Lean SCs are supported by Operational, Integration, and Information capabilities; Agile SCs by Integration, Decision, and Information capabilities; Resilient SCs by Control, Decision, and Information capabilities; and Green SCs by Operational, Control, and Information capabilities. An integrative framework distinguishing primary and complementary capabilities is proposed. Conclusions: The study shifts the focus from cloud computing as a technological resource towards cloud-enabled organizational capability configurations that support SC strategies. The framework and theoretical propositions provide a foundation for future empirical research and managerial decision-making.
