Asymptotic Performance Analysis of Diversity-Enabled Finite-Block length Systems over the Family of Single and Double Shadowed κ-μ Fading Channels

Abstract

The analytical complexity inherent in the family of κ−μ/shadowed fading family often restricts its practical applicability in diversity-based systems and complicates the direct interpretation of performance metrics for wireless communication systems. To overcome these challenges, this work proposes a unified and simplified asymptotic framework for the family of κ−μ/shadowed fading models, accommodating both single and double shadowing scenarios with diversity. Initially, we derive the fundamental probability density function expressions for single-input and single-output (SISO) system than extended it with employing selection combining (SC) schemes. Building on this, asymptotic analysis of short-packet communication performance metrics, specifically average block error rate and delay outage rate, is presented. The framework is further extended to quantify diversity and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gains. At last, we validated the analytical finding with Monte-Carlo simulations and found these results to be in close-agreement, confirming the accuracy of the provided formulations.
