Abstract

Individuals with paralysis require constant monitoring and timely treatment of their healthcare. This study presents a system using the Internet of Things (IoT) with several health monitoring sensors and an automated alerting system that assists patients with paralysis. The system includes, amongst other sensors, an accelerometer, an ECG sensor, and temperature sensors that will monitor several functioning health indicators and alert possible fall accidents. In addition, the system provides a voice activation system that allows patients to communicate needs for food, water, medications, and help to the washroom. The presented system allows healthcare providers and caregivers to perform real-time patient remote monitoring of the patient with either the acquisition and transmission of data via ESP32 micro controller or Thinger.io cloud services. A GSM module is included to provide real-time alerts in cases of an emergency situations such as a fall detected or irregular health monitoring readings. While in the motion detection system, the accelerometer helps minimize unnecessary delays in responses to sudden patient movements, potentially reducing the risk of serious injury. The experimental demonstration supports the efficiency of the system in monitoring patient status and presenting escape information/alerts in a timely manner. The integration of IoT and cloud computing improved accessibility to remote monitoring and easy access.AI- - based support systems for enhanced automation and machine learning algorithms for predictive health checks are potential future advancements sensors that will monitor several functioning health indicators and alert to possible fall accidents.
