Mentoring on the Use of Digital Learning Media in IPAS Instruction to Enhance Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes in Grade 4 Elementary School
Abstract
Teaching IPAS in elementary school requires innovative, engaging, and interactive media to enhance student engagement in understanding the material. This community service activity aimed to provide guidance on the use of instructional media in teaching IPAS—specifically, the topic of changes in the physical state of matter—to fourth-grade elementary school students. The activity was carried out through the following stages: preparation, implementation of interactive video media, guidance during the learning process, and evaluation. There were 20 fourth-grade students participating in the activity. Evaluation was conducted through learning outcome tests and observations of student engagement before and after the implementation of the interactive video media. The evaluation results showed that the average student learning outcome increased from 64.00 on the pretest to 80.75 on the posttest, representing an increase of 16.75 points. The average learning achievement after the activity also exceeded the minimum passing score (KKM) of 75. In addition, the average student engagement reached 80.36. These results indicate that the use of interactive videos has a positive impact on student engagement and learning outcomes. Interactive videos can serve as an alternative digital learning medium to support more active and engaging IPAS learning in elementary schools.
