MONITORING AND MODELING OF UNORGANIZED SURFACE RUNOFF IN ORDER TO PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Abstract
Background. Water pollution is a source of man-made emergencies with adverse environmental and socio-economic consequences. Polluted wastewater causes colossal harm and associated economic losses to economic facilities, the environment, and human life. Therefore, to minimize the threats and risks of excessive nutrient pollution of water bodies, it is necessary to develop modern, effective methods for assessing potential pollution, adapted to realworld conditions. Materials and methods. The study proposes a method for assessing the potential replenishment of aquifers by unbounded surface runoff, based on modeling of technogenic pollution in the InVEST Urban Stormwater Retention Model software package and mapping in QGIS. Results and conclusions. The application of this method will allow for the development of organizational and technical measures for monitoring and forecasting of anthropogenic pollution of soil cover and water bodies with contaminated surface runoff, as well as for ensuring the environmental safety of territories and water bodies. The method is being adapted for the practice of assessing and predicting the negative impact of wastewater on the environment.
