KONTROVERSI BIAYA TINGGI PADA BANK SYARIAH: EVALUASI EFEKTIVITAS REGULASI DALAM MEWUJUDKAN PRINSIP KEADILAN EKONOMI
Abstract
The development of Islamic banking in Indonesia has shown significant growth as a financial system based on the principles of justice, transparency, and the prohibition of riba. However, controversy has emerged regarding the perception that costs in Islamic banks are relatively high, including financing margins, administrative fees, and other service charges compared to conventional banks. This condition raises questions about the consistency of Islamic banking operational practices with the principles of economic justice in Islam. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of high costs in Islamic banking and to evaluate the effectiveness of regulations in realizing the principle of economic justice. The method used is a literature study with a normative approach through the analysis of Islamic economic literature and Islamic banking regulations. The results indicate that high costs are influenced by operational efficiency, limited economies of scale, sharia compliance requirements, and the risk structure of financing. Existing regulations have addressed cost transparency and consumer protection, but their implementation still needs to be optimized to ensure that the principle of economic justice in Islamic banking can be realized effectively and sustainably.
