Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital journalism has transformed not only the way news is distributed but also how media organizations construct their institutional identity through language. In Indonesia, online news platforms increasingly adopt linguistic strategies that balance journalistic credibility with audience engagement. This study aims to examine how the language style of Detik.com represents its institutional identity within Indonesia's digital media ecosystem. A qualitative content analysis was conducted using news articles published on Detik.com during May 2025. The analysis focused on lexical choices, sentence structures, headline construction, and narrative patterns to identify recurring linguistic characteristics that represent the platform's institutional identity. The findings indicate that Detik.com consistently employs a hybrid language style by combining formal journalistic terminology with informal and emotionally expressive expressions to improve readability and strengthen audience engagement. The analysis also shows the platform relies on interactive narrative strategies, including interrogative headlines, concise sentence structures, and click-oriented storytelling, while maintaining factual reporting and source credibility. These linguistic patterns demonstrate that language functions not only as a communication tool but also as a strategic institutional resource for balancing editorial authority with the demands of digital news consumption. Detik.com's language reflects an adaptive institutional identity shaped by media convergence, digital interactivity, and changing audience preferences within Indonesia's online journalism landscape. The findings contribute to journalism studies by demonstrating how linguistic choices influence institutional identity in digital media and provide practical insights for news organizations seeking to develop audience-oriented communication strategies without compromising journalistic standards.
