ECOART DAY: SCIENCE, ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AS STRATEGIES FOR RAISING AWARENESS AND PRESERVING NATURE
Abstract
Environmental education (EE) is an essential dimension of school education, particularly when developed through participatory, interdisciplinary, and contextualized practices. The “EcoArt Day” project, planned and executed by scholarship holders of the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID) at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA) in a public school, articulated science, environment, and art in a thematic exhibition celebrating World Environment Day. This study aims to analyze the contributions of “EcoArt Day” as a pedagogical strategy for environmental awareness and as a space for initial teacher education. The intervention was collaboratively organized by scholarship holders, science coordinator, supervising teacher, school management, teachers, students, and families. Three exhibition categories were established according to age groups: Drawing (Pre-B to 2nd grade), Sculpture using reusable materials (3rd to 5th grade), and Poetry (6th to 9th grade). Results demonstrated student agency in artwork creation and presentation, the transformation of waste into communicative-aesthetic resources, and strengthened school-community integration. The project demonstrates that connecting critical EE, art, and teacher initiation within PIBID enhances meaningful learning and enriches initial teacher training.
