Analysis of Teacher Efforts to Improve Learning Motivation among Fifth-Grade Students at SDN Bororejo
Abstract
This study examines the efforts made by teachers to enhance the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SDN Bororejo. It employs a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach. The research subjects include the school principal, the fifth-grade teacher, and the fifth-grade students at SDN Bororejo. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews with the class teacher and principal, and documentation analysis. Various educational challenges accompany the teaching and learning process; one significant issue is low student learning motivation. Consequently, boosting motivation is crucial, as it is a key determinant of student success. Field observations revealed several issues regarding student motivation, such as a lack of enthusiasm during lessons, passivity, susceptibility to boredom, low participation in discussions or Q&A sessions, distractions caused by gadget usage, limited variety in teaching methods (with a tendency toward lectures), and diverse student characteristics leading to uneven levels of motivation. Teachers, acting as facilitators, play a vital role in enhancing learning motivation through appropriate strategies, methods, and approaches. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the efforts of the fifth-grade teacher at SDN Bororejo in boosting student learning motivation. The study aims to describe and analyze these efforts, which include implementing varied and game-based learning methods (such as ice-breaking activities), utilizing technology-based media (e.g., digital TV), providing praise or rewards, creating a conducive classroom atmosphere, and employing interpersonal approaches with students. The results indicate that the efforts made by the fifth-grade teacher successfully enhanced student learning motivation, as evidenced by improving test scores.
