Sep 2026 · IIARD INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF BANKING AND FINANCE RESEARCH · 0 citations

Abstract

This study examines the impact of environmental sustainability on entrepreneurial performance in Nigeria, with Enugu State serving as a case study. The study specifically aims to assess the level of environmental sustainability practices adopted by entrepreneurs and their effect on business profitability. Additionally, it explores the nexus between environmental sustainability and profitability. The research adopts a survey design and employs both the Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) models for data analysis. The findings reveal that environmental sustainability adoption significantly impacts business profitability in Enugu State (P = 0.020, P > 0.05). A moderate positive correlation (0.4646) between profitability and environmental sustainability suggests that companies that integrate sustainable practices experience increased profitability. Based on these findings, the study recommends that businesses in Enugu State prioritize sustainability initiatives, such as energy efficiency and waste reduction, to enhance long-term profitability and competitiveness. Policymakers should develop and enforce regulations that encourage sustainable business practices through effective monitoring and support mechanisms. Finally, further research is recommended to explore industry-specific sustainability approaches and their financial implications across various sectors in Nigeria.
