Embodied artificial intelligence telescope: an effective solution for high-level autonomous operation requirements of GOTTA project
Abstract
Future time-domain astronomy will rely on globally distributed arrays of wide-field telescopes capable of tracking the most rapid and violent cosmic phenomena in real time. This facility can only operate effectively if it is fully autonomous, distributed, and continuously adaptive—capabilities that far exceed the limits of today’s open-loop robotic telescope software. We therefore introduce the Embodied Artificial Intelligence Telescope (EAIT), an AI native closed-loop observational system that integrates perception, interpretation, planning, and action within each telescope. EAIT transforms a telescope from a passive data-collection instrument into an intelligent agent capable of real-time decision-making and autonomous coordination across a global array. Our results highlight the feasibility of EAIT and its potential to redefine the operational paradigm for next-generation transient astronomy.
