Practical Application of Geosynthetics for Enhanced Coastal Erosion Control: A Constructability-Focused Approach

2026 · E3S Web of Conferences · 0 citations · 1 references

Abstract

Coastal erosion, driven by sea level rise and severe storm events, necessitates innovative solutions. This study synthesizes knowledge on geosynthetic performance in coastal applications, concentrating on the interplay of material properties, installation methods, and environmental factors. By integrating current best practices, this paper provides an overview of the design, constructability, and performance of geosynthetic-reinforced coastal protection strategies. The analysis evaluates geotextiles, geogrids, and geocomposites across various coastal applications, such as their roles in erosion control, filtration, drainage, and soil reinforcement. Key considerations include material selection based on site- specific conditions, installation techniques, and long-term sustainability. Actionable insights for engineers and stakeholders involved in designing effective coastal protection solutions are presented.
