Research on the fire risk of aviation kerosene and fire prevention measures for oil depots
Abstract
To assess the fire risk of aviation kerosene, its flash point, explosion limit, sustained combustion characteristics, and heat release rate were tested experimentally, while its vapor composition was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results indicate that, compared to typical flammable liquids such as n-heptane and gasoline, aviation kerosene exhibits a higher flash point, a higher lower explosive limit, a lower heat release rate, is less prone to ignition, and burns with lower intensity. In the event of an aviation kerosene leak explosion, external wind can dilute the evaporated vapor components, thereby reducing the explosion’s impact range. When determining the fire separation distances between aviation kerosene storage facilities and buildings, tailored distances should be established based on the storage facility size and local wind meteorological conditions.
