The Role of Transformational School Leadership in Advancing Digitalization and Learning Quality at Indonesian School
Abstract
Advances in digital technology and the demands of 21st-century education require vocational schools to continuously adapt, making effective school principal leadership a strategic factor in managing educational transformation. This study aimed to describe the leadership styles of school principals, analyze digitalization management strategies, and examine the leadership dynamics at SMK Negeri 2 Banjarmasin. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal, teachers, and students. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings revealed that the principal applied transformational and collaborative leadership by involving teachers in decision-making, school program development, and learning evaluation. The principal actively encouraged the use of digital platforms such as e-learning, Google Meet, and Zoom to enhance both instructional and administrative processes. This approach positively impacted administrative efficiency and learning quality. However, challenges remained, including limited digital competence among some teachers, suboptimal supporting facilities, and unstable internet connectivity. Adaptive, collaborative, and innovation-oriented principal leadership contributes significantly to building a school environment that is responsive to change and capable of sustaining continuous improvement in educational quality.
