USING AUTHENTIC MATERIALS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ SPOKEN ENGLISH IN EFL CLASSROOMS
Abstract
The development of spoken English is one of the major objectives of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. However, many EFL learners experience difficulties in developing effective speaking skills because classroom language is often limited to textbook-based expressions and controlled communication activities. Authentic materials can provide learners with exposure to natural language, realistic communicative situations, diverse vocabulary, and culturally meaningful contexts. This article examines the role of authentic materials in improving students’ spoken English in EFL classrooms. It discusses the theoretical foundations of authentic language input, the pedagogical benefits of using real-world materials, and practical strategies for integrating authentic resources into speaking lessons.
