Abstract
This article examines the semantic features of the images of “friend” and “enemy” in Uzbek folk paroemias and their role in representing national-cultural values and social-ethical attitudes. Proverbs and other paroemiological units preserve the historical experience, worldview, moral principles and social relations of a people in a concise, figurative and expressive form. The study analyzes the semantic fields of the lexemes “friend” and “enemy”, their synonymic and antonymic relations, evaluative meanings, metaphorical representations and semantic opposition. In Uzbek folk paroemias, the image of a friend is primarily associated with loyalty, sincerity, truthfulness, mutual assistance, compassion and support in difficult situations.
