Abstract

Patriarchy In Quranic Interpretation Is A Significant Issue In Gender Studies Because The Differentiation Of Roles Between Men And Women Is Often Perceived As A Form Of Hierarchy And A Legitimate Basis For Male Dominance. This Issue Extends Beyond The Quranic Text Itself, Encompassing Social And Cultural Contexts As Well As The Methodologies Employed To Interpret Gender-Related Verses. This Study Aims To Analyze The Manifestation Of Patriarchy Within Gender-Related Quranic Verses And To Elucidate Fazlur Rahman’s Social-Hermeneutic Perspective On The Phenomenon Of Patriarchy. Employing A Qualitative-Descriptive Design Specifically A Library Research Model This Study Utilizes Sociological And Hermeneutic Approaches Alongside Content And Comparative Analysis Techniques. Primary Sources Include The Quran And The Works Of Fazlur Rahman, With A Specific Focus On Quranic Verses Such As Qs. An-Nisā’ [4]:34, Qs. Al-Baqarah [2]:228, And Qs. An-Nisā’ [4]:11. The Findings Indicate That Patriarchal Constructs Arise More Frequently From The Interpretation And Application Of These Verses Within Specific Social Contexts Than From The Quranic Text Itself. By Applying The "Double Movement" Approach, These Verses Can Be Understood Through The Lens Of Historical Context And Universal Moral Principles Such As Responsibility, Justice, The Balance Of Rights And Obligations, Protection, And The Common Good. Consequently, Role Distinctions Between Men And Women Cannot Simply Serve As A Justification For Claims Of Superiority; Rather, They Must Be Understood In Light Of Specific Conditions And Situations, With The Ultimate Aim Of Fostering Equitable Relationships.
