OPTIMIZATION OF OPERATIONAL BUSINESS PROCESSES AT MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISES IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITALIZATION: A PROCESS-SIMULATION APPROACH
Abstract
The article examines the impact of modern digital technologies—specifically Big Data, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and related digital tools—on the transformation of enterprise business processes. It is argued that the digitalization of business processes is not merely a matter of mechanically replacing traditional technologies with digital counterparts; rather, it entails a shift in how information is generated, transmitted, processed, and utilized, as well as changes in managerial decision-making, interaction among process participants, and the monitoring of outcomes. Based on an analysis of contemporary scientific publications, the key areas of digital technology impact on business processes have been systematized: automation, analytical support, forecasting, integration, transparency, traceability, adaptability, and intellectualization. It has been established that while individual digital technologies create distinct functional capabilities, the greatest transformational effect arises from their interaction within a unified enterprise digital environment. A conceptual transformation sequence—"digital technology – digital capability – business process change – process characteristic change – economic result"—is proposed, enabling a shift from a purely technological approach to a process-economic approach in evaluating digitalization.
